A dwarf of Clan Aggadum, squire to Elysant Peppin, and the youngest of the escort bringing Isabel d’Allais into Hazad. Killed in the Halwa fight with the Eagle, Fall 1734. (S6)

Her cousin was on the party that killed the demon in Morrschatten — which puts her family one step from On the Summoning of Guardian Spirits.

What We Know (all S6, via Visenne de Tarrand)

  • Of Clan Aggadum — a dwarven clan not otherwise recorded in the wiki, and not one of the Hazadi sub-clans of Clan Zum. Presumably western.
  • She was a squire, not a knight — squire to Elysant Peppin. So the escort was three Owl knights and a squire around the commander’s daughter, not four knights. (GM)
  • She was the younger cousin of another Aggadum dwarf who was among the group that dispatched the demon in Morrschatten — the Fall 1732 kill, of the unformed demon of warped white radiance, summoned from Benedicto Malipiero’s tome. (GM)
  • She was a woman, as was the whole escort. (Aaron)
  • Died in the capture.

Why She Matters

She is a thread between the two halves of this story, and she is dead.

The Owl’s last years run on two tracks the party has treated as separate: the sanctums, and the book that promises Celestials and delivers demons. Marin’s cousin was on the party that killed the thing the book summoned — and recovered the book. Marin herself was on the escort captured in Halwa eighteen months later. Clan Aggadum has at least two members inside the Owl’s final four years, on both tracks.

And unlike almost everyone else on those tracks, the cousin may still be alive. Nothing establishes that the cousin was an Owl knight at all — and if they weren’t, the Spring 1736 purge had no reason to touch them.

Speculation

This is the first traceable route to the 1732 demon party. Every other approach to On the Summoning of Guardian Spirits runs through men the Order of the Phoenix executed. A named clan with a named-adjacent survivor is something the party can actually go looking for — and Clan Zum’s yearly Meet, plus Dolgrim Zum-Akar of Uncle’s Men, is a way to ask about western clans without crossing the Circle Sea. See Dwarves.

Speculation

Visenne knew this and volunteered it. She can tell the party that a dead teenage squire’s cousin fought a demon in southern Morrschatten in 1732 — a very specific thing to have carried in her head for five years. It suggests the escort talked on the road, and that Marin was proud of it. It also means Visenne knows more about the order’s other operations than “we knew nothing of the first visit” implied. Push her.

Speculation

Two dwarves, two Owl parties to Halwa. The Summer 1733 sanctum expedition had a dwarf (S5); this escort had Marin. If the 1733 dwarf was also Aggadum, one clan sits on all three threads — sanctums, the book, and the escort. Nobody has a name for the 1733 dwarf. Getting one is now worth real effort.

Speculation

A squire is an odd passenger on a hand-picked mission. Dalet chose this escort personally (Aaron). Squires are not usually chosen; they come attached to their knights. So either Marin came as part of Elysant Peppin, or Dalet wanted an Aggadum dwarf on that road specifically — and after the cousin’s 1732 work, that would not be a strange thing to want.

Open Questions

  • Who is the cousin, and are they alive? Name, and whether the Spring 1736 purge reached them.
  • Was the cousin an Owl knight, or attached to that party some other way?
  • Where is Clan Aggadum’s clanhold? (Clan Grum’s is in far western Morrschatten; the demon kill was in southern Morrschatten.)
  • Was Marin sworn to the Owl in her own right, or only through Elysant Peppin?
  • How old was she? Isabel was thirteen on that road; a squire may not have been much older.
