A dwarven clan of the far west of Morrschattenmetalworkers and device-makers, and the likely makers of Estelle’s orrery.

What We Know (all S6)

  • They specialize in metalworking and devices. Not general smithing — devices.
  • Their current major clanhold is in far western Morrschatten.
  • The orrery Farraj was given in a dream is likely of their make — a history read, not a certainty.

Why They Matter

The orrery is not an ancient relic. It is 10–20 years old, it has been used, and it has been maintained — which means somebody commissioned it recently, from a clan in the far west of a kingdom that has been at civil war since 1731, and somebody kept it oiled. See The Monastery of the Dawn and the Orrery.

That makes Clan Grum the single most checkable lead the party has on Estelle. Instrument-makers keep books. A commission for a precision orrery built to hold tolerance across temperature ranges is not an order a clanhold forgets.

Speculation

Far western Morrschatten. Krenau is in Morrschatten. Prince Udo sacked it in 1731; the War of the Three Princes has ground on ever since; the plague started at Weissbaden. Whoever commissioned this thing did it in a war zone, and either the clanhold survived to remember it or it didn’t. Establish which before planning anything around it.

Speculation

Note the pattern in Dwarves: both Owl parties that reached Halwa had a dwarf in them, and one — Marin of Clan Aggadum — has a clan name. Dwarves keep turning up next to this material: a dwarf on the sanctum expedition, a dwarf in the escort, a dwarven clan on the orrery, and Awad dead in dwarven ruins. Probably coincidence. Probably.

Members & Associates

  • None known to the party.

Relationships

  • Clan Zum — the Hazadi clan; no known connection, but the Elders’ yearly Meet and the arrival of western dwarves through The Troubles make Zum a plausible way to ask about Grum without going west. Dolgrim Zum-Akar of Uncle’s Men is the obvious channel.
