The other elder people — humbled by the Wrath but far better integrated than the Elves.
Overview
- About 6” shorter than humans on average but as massive as a human 6” taller.
- Lost most ancestral underground strongholds to the Wrath and the Corrupted; found a new place among the Peoples as soldiers and craftspeople. Few are Blessed, but many serve the Church.
- The locations of most old strongholds have been lost.
Khazak Dol
A great dwarven stronghold rediscovered ~30 years ago in northeastern Hazad. With Sultan Fahim’s blessing there has been a major rebuilding and recolonization effort — and a resurgence of dwarven interest in resettling other lost holds. The Sultan’s policy of limiting access to the site has caused friction. See Khazak Dol.
Speculation
Crown Prince Awad died “exploring Dwarven ruins to the north.” (S1) Whether that means Khazak Dol or another site — and what he was doing there — is an open question. See The Death of Crown Prince Awad.
Clan Zum
The only major dwarven clan in Hazad; diversified from traditional glassmaking into many trades. Split into sub-clans (Zum-Akar, Zum-Gromir, etc.), each with an Elder; a yearly Meet settles disputes and sets policy. Dolgrim Zum-Akar of Uncle’s Men is Zum-Akar. Some dwarves have arrived from across the Circle Sea because of The Troubles, so far in small numbers. See Clan Zum.
The Modernists are the Hazadi political faction friendliest to the dwarves.
Western Clans
- Clan Grum — metalworking and devices; current major clanhold in far western Morrschatten. Likely makers of the orrery Estelle gave Farraj — a precision instrument only 10–20 years old. (S6)
- Clan Aggadum — the clan of Marin of Clan Aggadum, squire to Elysant Peppin, killed in Halwa in Fall 1734. Another Aggadum dwarf — Marin’s older cousin — was among the party that killed the demon in southern Morrschatten in Fall 1732, the kill that recovered On the Summoning of Guardian Spirits. (GM, S6) Clanhold location unknown. That cousin may still be alive, and is the party’s only traceable route to the 1732 demon party.
Speculation
Dwarves keep turning up next to the sanctum material. A dwarf on the Owl’s Summer 1733 expedition to the Sanctum of Sethariel (Mamud and a Halwa source, S5); a dwarf in the Fall 1734 escort; a western dwarven clan on the orrery; and Crown Prince Awad dead in dwarven ruins. Probably four coincidences. But if the party ever gets a name for the 1733 dwarf, compare it against Aggadum and Grum — and note that Clan Zum’s yearly Meet and Dolgrim Zum-Akar are a way to ask about western clans without crossing the Circle Sea.
