The Situation

The party came home and handed everything to Ismad, and most of it came back as leads. Estelle is, in Uncle’s Men’ judgement, not a haunting but a rival serviceUncle and his heir Maajid suspect the Order of the Phoenix, who reportedly had good divination forty years ago. The orders are to play along, avoid recruitment, and learn more. The Kraus’s Folly warp circle has a name — Ritual Magic, which exists only in Divine and Logos flavors — and a candidate builder: Amalricht von-Haup, House Bethlen’s court magician, who later served Constanza’s guardian and died three years ago. House Bethlen was massacred in 1720, and Constanza has been officially dead since infancy. And Benedicto Malipiero is the Most Holy’s younger brother — condemned for heresy by his own family around 1710, charged with dealing with the infernal, a master of both the divine and logos arts, and officially executed — which Uncle and Ismad do not believe. The wiki’s long caution about “one surname and no genealogy” is retired.

The orrery is a machine, and a recent one. Not magic, not evil, Clan Grum dwarven work out of far western Morrschatten, only 10–20 years old, used and maintained, built from mixed metals so it holds precision across temperatures, with bodies that map to known stars. Somebody commissioned a portable, accurate sanctum-finder in living memory, and Ari is learning to run it. It is emphatically not the monastery’s lost jeweled orrery.

Titus is curedFather Jamar, one night in a chapel, no Great House required. And Haroun told the party about the call, unprompted, on the ship.

The last two Owl knights are real, and they aren’t the witnesses anyone hoped for. At the Citadel of Gazra, on the Sultan’s own estate, Visenne de Tarrand and Isabel d’Allais have been noble hostages for five years. The Owl’s Fall 1734 return to Halwa was not an investigation — it was an extraction: the knight commander Jehan Dalet was sending his own daughter to Hazad in the hope she could find refuge there, because her gift is heresy in the West. Three of the escort died in the Eagle fight, including Jean-Marie, the one person who might have known about the sanctums. Neither survivor knows anything about the 1733 expedition — and nobody asked them about sanctums at all.

Then the capital rioted. Midsummer, a foul heat, a summer of “elves brought plague”, and on the night the party got back from Gazra a mob came at the Ulpia estate with a battering ram. They held it — with House Balventia’s guards — but professional snipers no one ever located drove them off the roof and cut through Haroun’s wards, Farraj killed and wounded scores with lightning, two Ulpia guards went down, and the mob got angrier when it saw Ari. The fight ended. Nobody knows whether the riots have.

Meanwhile: Naqi al-Akram was not in the ruins with Awad. He was supposed to go, his sister died, he begged off — and then took ill at the family estate and died. Sadiq, the elf who squired for him alongside Haroun, told the party all of it and is holding something back.

The Party

Gnaeus Clodius Ulpius (Aaron) · Farraj ibn Ihab al-Rabi (Colin) · Haroun al-Affan (Justin) · Titus Caetronius Surus (bodyguard) · Ari (bound elf alchemist)

Standing Assignments

  1. The Sanctum Investigation — follow up on the three sanctums
  2. Why Did the Phoenix Knights Come to Hazad

Current Action Items

Right now, in the capital

  • Find out whether the two Ulpia guards lived. Gnaeus teleported them out mid-fight and tried to heal them
  • Are the riots over? And did other estates get hit, or only this one — because if only this one, it wasn’t a riot
  • Search the rooftops for the snipers’ positions now, before the city cleans up. Long range, real damage through magical protection, never found. Ask Ismad whether they match the three “very professional” people from the dockside attempt on Baahir
  • Finish the safe house for Ari. The mob has seen her face
  • Check on the Isbi’liyyah elven community. Nobody has
  • Handle the aftermath of Farraj killing scores of commoners with lightning in front of witnesses

The leads Ismad handed over

  • Take the letter of introduction to House Balventia — research the Order of the Dawn, and (discreetly, via Lusia Balventia or her scholars) whether the Order of the Phoenix used divination forty years ago. Sanctums: carefully. Haroun’s temptation: never
  • Go back to Visenne de Tarrand and Isabel d’Allais and ask about the sanctums — the entire reason the party wanted them. They can be released into the party’s custody on request. Sister Alia has confirmed Isabel’s gift is not heretical in the east, so the obstacle to her freedom is diplomatic, not doctrinal
  • Get the name of Marin’s cousin from Visenne — an Aggadum dwarf who was on the Fall 1732 party that killed the demon and recovered the Malipiero tome. The first route to that party that doesn’t run through a man the Phoenix executed
  • Does Isabel d’Allais know her father is dead? It’s also the wiki’s open question about d’Allais’s fate
  • Ask Estelle where she got the orrery. It is now a checkable object — Clan Grum, 10–20 years old. Cheapest available test of whether she tells the truth
  • Reach Clan Grum — or ask Clan Zum / Dolgrim Zum-Akar who commissions precision instruments from them
  • Trace Amalricht von-Haup and Kristof Gruben — both died ~1736, both Krenau men, in the year the Owl was purged. Causes of death. (Note: von-Haup as circle-builder was only Uncle and Ismad speculating — nothing confirms it, so the Folly’s builder is still entirely unknown)
  • Ask Ismad why he and Uncle doubt Benedicto Malipiero’s execution. The record says it happened; they don’t believe it, and they never said why

Haroun’s threads

  • Meet Sadiq again — agreed, within the month. He is holding something back
  • What did Naqi’s sister die of, and when? The unexamined death that moved every other piece
  • Get the roster of who did go with Awad — Sadiq is an Eagle quartermaster
  • Decide what, if anything, to do with Rashida al-Sabri, Naqi’s widow. The condolence note is sent; a second approach needs a reason
  • Sister Alasia — and note that Uncle’s Men have now put Madeline in front of the Eagle

Still open from before

  • Ask Madeline about Marie-Celeste de la Courcel — and now about Marc Abayante, whose paramour she was rumored to be. She has told the party the small half of her story
  • Pick the next sanctum: Stars (south of Cardacci, on both lists) · Moon (south of Hazad, closest) · the Averoigne mountains site
  • Debrief Lindse with what’s now known — the tall blond man, the dark-haired woman. Two sessions and nobody has shown her a description
  • Write down the scholars Madeline named before they’re lost, and follow the Krenau / Gandolfini lead — establishing first what survived the 1731 sack and university fire
  • Await Master Bahadir’s research on the strange notation; take the orrery to him and Master Najlad
  • Have someone independent look at Titus again
