What We Know (all GM)
- One of the three Princes of Morrschatten (which princedom is not stated; Strelitz belongs to the Melnichs).
- Fall 1731: besieges Krenau, the last holding of the deposed House Bethlen. The city falls unexpectedly quickly and a sack begins. A fire starts at the university.
- The Owl knights present in Krenau at the time were there specifically researching the sanctums — the topic that would get their order destroyed five years later.
Why He Matters
Krenau’s university was Gandolfini’s. Whatever the Owl went there to consult, and whatever Gandolfini’s faculty held, went through a sack and a fire in Fall 1731 — and the party’s plan for the western leg of this investigation is to go looking for exactly those papers. See Krenau.
Speculation
“Falls unexpectedly quickly” and “a fire starts at the university” are both the kind of phrasing that hides a decision. If someone wanted the sanctum research destroyed, a sack is the cleanest cover there is — and the Owl party inside had arrived only that season. Whether Udo was the instrument, the opportunist, or simply a prince taking a city is unknown.
