“In Sacrifice, Meaning” — the order that protects Morrschatten, and the order whose own head became the Betrayer.
Charge & Motto
Protects Morrschatten. Motto: “In Sacrifice, Meaning.” One of the six Orders Militant; its head holds a seat on the Divine Council (Western Church).
What We Know (all GM)
- The Betrayer Queen was head of the Order of the Raven as well as Queen of Morrschatten when she defected to Iuz at the climax of the Third Crusade (1446) — one of the greatest institutional catastrophes in the history of any Order, and inseparable from the Raven’s identity since.
- The modern Raven is consequently known for extreme caution about becoming the instrument of a secular ruler — the lesson of its own history.
- In the current War of the Three Princes it has remained institutionally neutral, refusing to become any prince’s personal force despite family and political pressure. Outsiders read this as passivity; the Raven reads it as doctrine.
- That neutrality makes it one of the few institutions with a Morschatti identity crossing princely lines.
- Strongly associated with Morschatti ideas of meaningful sacrifice and endurance, and with martial Gifts.
The Vigil of the Ten (S7): a Morschatti book in the Balventia library names the ten noble heroes who were to accompany the Betrayer Queen — the Raven’s own head — on her last mission. The one name the party recorded is Euglerrand de Tarrand. What became of the Ten at the Betrayal, the notes don’t say.
Why It Matters
An order that answers to no prince, in a country at war with itself, is the closest thing Morrschatten has to a national institution — and the party’s Morschatti threads (Constanza Bethlen, Krenau, the Strelitz princes) all run through territory the Raven watches but does not rule.
